Stars meet in Ilorin for 18-hole Saraki Pro-Am tourney

Some of the best amateur and professional players from across the country will on Sunday gather at the Ilorin Golf Club to contest for honours in the ninth edition of the Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki competition. It is an 18-hole tournament, which forms part of the 54th birthday celebrations of the Senate president.

According to the organisers of the competition, this year’s edition of the Saraki championship, coming in this festive period, will be spiced with some side attractions aimed at bringing out the best in the players.

Speaking on the competition on Tuesday, Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Layi Maliki, said the 18-hole competition will tee-off by 7:00 a.m., with the Senate President performing the ceremonial tee- off alongside Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Maliki disclosed that a member of the House of Representatives, representing Edu, Moro and Pategi Federal Constituency, sponsors the competition. Aliyu Ahman Pategi, and supported by the Kwara State government.

Clubs expected to present professional and amateur players at the tournament, according to Maliki, are the host club, Ilorin Golf Club, Mic-com Golf and Country Club, Ada, Kadariko Golf Club Kainji, Ogbomosho Recreation Club and Ibadan Golf Club, among others.

Maliki expressed his gratitude to the sponsor of the competition for keeping faith with it over the years, adding that it has become a regular tournament in the calendar of the host club.

He said the event would get begin with a welcome cocktail for participants on tomorrow, while the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes is billed for Sunday by 7:00p.m.

Mustapha Maliki of Ilorin Golf Club won the 2015 edition of the competition.
