Sponsors want more of Lords, golf partnership

Last weekend’s partnership with a golf event in Oturkpo by Lords Gin, which has received positive reviews, is a tip of what the company has in mind to add fun and relaxation to golf events in the future.

Lords’ Brand Manager, Bojuwade Adebowale, who revealed he was particularly impressed by the patronage and support by the golfing community, said he looks forward to up the ante and of course innovatively spice up golf events.

“The aim here is to raise the expectation of golfers as they prepare for top events across the country. Lords being leading Nigeria’s Premium Gin has been partnering with the game of golf for some time now. The partnership with at the St. Mark Golf Course in Benue over the weekend was our way of spreading our reach in the golf community.

“In the past, we have partnered clubs at intra-club events across the country, we have also been the sponsor of the only Golf Show on radio ‘Tee-off with Lords’ with is listened to across the nation especially in Lagos, Edo, Abuja and River states,” he said.

He maintained that Lords Gin’s incursion into the game is not a one-off thing, saying it is a tradition and the brand is committed to raising the experience at “big-ticket” events in the future.

“We have our plans mapped out to get more golfers across the country feel our deep seated campaign for the growth of the game,” he added. At the former Senate Presidents sponsored birthday Pro-Am over the weekend, Lords Gin’s stand was present for most part of the event, getting players refreshed of which the sponsor and golfers applauded.

Former number one player, Oche Odoh won the event with a record-breaking 21-under par through the four days of the event. More than 150 players from different golf courses across the country took part in the event.

Meanwhile, former Senate President, David Mark has been made the Life Vice President of the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN). Senator Mark got the famed green jacket at his 69th birthday Pro-Am from the PGAN Director, Samson Lawal, who was assisted by former Minister of Interior, Abba Morro, former NAFDAC Director General, Dr. Paul Ohi, Chairman of Enugu Sports Club, Ben Etiaba and Mrs. Helen Mark.

Explaining the rationale for the appointment, Lawal said PGAN elected to honour Mark because of the role he has played in the development of professional golf and for setting a well equipped golf academy where free tuition is offered the young ones.

Lawal added: “He single-handedly built and maintains a golf course for public use free of charge. He has alleviated poverty and provided employment to the public through the numerous tournaments he has sponsored.”
