Siasia, Danjuma name squads for crucial ties in Congo, E/Guinea

SiasiaCoach of the U-23 national team, Samson Siasia, and the Head Coach of the Super Falcons, Chris Danjuma, have selected players for their respective team.

A statement in the website of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday said that Siasia selected 20 players for the African U-23 championship qualifier against Congo in Pointe Noire on Sunday.

It added that Danjuma picked 18 players for the big match against Equatorial Guinea’s Senior Women national team in Bata, Equatorial Guinea also on Sunday.

The statement quoted Siasia as saying that all the selected players for the U-23 team were good enough to make the trip.

“But it is impossible for everyone to make it to Congo,’’ the website quoted Siasia as saying.

Siasia, the statement added, charged players left out to continue to work on their game and pray for the success of the team in the big match.

“The team’s focus is to go to Congo and make the nation proud.

“For those of you selected, this is a golden opportunity for you to show to Nigerians and the world that your first leg victory is not a flash in the pan.

“And as such you must fight hard when we get to Pointe Noire and beat the Congolese,’’ said Siasia.

The selected U-23 players were Daniel Emmanuel, Atanda Sodiq, Stanley Amuzie, Azubuike Okechukwu, Olusegun Oduduwa, Erhun Obanor, Godwin Saviour and Etebo Oghenekaro.

The others were Junior Ajayi, Usman Mohammed, Etor Daniel, Yusuf Mohammed, Chima Akas, Semiu Liadi, Shehu Abdullahi, Kingsley Sokari, Taiwo Awoniyi, Umar Aminu, Austin Oladapo and Sincere Seth.

The selected national women’s players for Bata on Sunday were Tochukwu Oluehi, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Blessing Edoho, Osarenoma Igbinovia, Joy Jegede, Osinachi Ohale, Martina Ohadugha and Desire Oparanozie.

The others were Cecilia Nku, Sarah Nnodim, Ngozi Ebere, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Ngozi Okobi, Chioma Wogu, Mercy Amanze, Precious Dede, Gladys Akpa and Chinaza Uchendu.
The teams, the statement said, would depart Abuja on Thursday with officials for the matches.
