Principal preaches sport as way of life

The chairman, organizing committee, Federal Government Colleges Games (FEDCOL) 2017, Mr. Muhammad Manko is excited that schools sport is back again.

Manko, who is the director/principal of Federal Government Academy, Suleja, and chairman of the North Central Forum of Principals, said at the closing ceremony of the 2017 FEDCOL, held in Jos, at the weekend, “sport teaches us much about life. It teaches us how to get along with people and work well together to achieve a common goal. It is also about trust and responsibility and dealing with success and failure.”

According to him, the tournament witnessed exhilarating moments and very significant role in raising schools’ sporting profile, with spectacular new records set at the event.

“Sport is a unifying factor. The city of Jos has played host to 104 Principals of Federal Unity Colleges, 104 vice Principals, 4000 athletes and 500 sporting staff,” he said.

Manko, said it has been a wonderful opportunity to showcase best athletic talents and spirit of comradeship. “I want to assure you that schools sport is back again.”

“In the light of this, I am most grateful to the Federal Ministry of Education for ensuring that the FEDCOL Games hold bi-annually,” he pointed out.

In the boys category, FGC Lagos, became overall winner, with six gold medals, three bronze, three silver, King’s College came second with three gold medals, one bronze , one silver, FGC Jos came third with two gold medals, two bronze and one silver, while in the girls’ category FGC Okigwe clinched the overall winners title with three gold medals, two bronze, one silver, FGC Ikot-Ekpene came second, with three gold medals and FGC Ikuru third with two gold medals, one bronze and one silver.
