Organisers pick 16 players from NNPC/Chevron Tennis Clinic
Organisers of the annual NNPC/Chevron Summer Tennis Clinic have selected 16 players, including 14 boys and two girls, in preparation for the forthcoming Junior Masters Championship slated for October at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
The summer tennis clinic is a programme that involves 100 children selected from schools in Lagos, who are then trained for three weeks by some of the best junior tennis coaches in Nigeria.
At this year’s event, which ended at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan on Saturday, the sponsors thrilled the kids with tennis bags and sumptuous lunch.
After 21 days of coaching and mentoring by coaches and instructors, the 100 kids who participated in the clinic had one last opportunity to refresh and look back at the gains of the last three weeks. At the closing ceremony attended by some of the children’s parents, the kids met with the sponsors, who said they were proud of their conduct and performance during their stay at the camp.
“We are impressed with your behaviour and wish that you keep up the good work as you depart from the camp,” Chevron spokesman, Deji Haastrup, said in a speech read by the company’s Manager, Social Performance and Planning, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Tunji Idowu.
