Okorocha picks Atasie to head Imo Sports Council
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has approved the appointment of veteran sports administrator, Austin Atasie, as the acting director of the state’s Sports Council.
Before his appointment, Atasie was a deputy director in the council.
His appointment was announced on the Imo State-owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) at the weekend.
According to a statement made available to The Guardian, Atasie was the country’s Wrestling champion for 10 years; African 62-Kilogramme Wrestling champion; Commonwealth Games Wrestling Champion in 1982 in Australia; Captain of African representative at World Cup Wrestling Champion in the United States in 1979, 1982 and 1988.
Also, Atasie, according to the statement, was the first Nigerian wrestler to participate in Moscow Games in 1980; Captain of Nigeria’s Wrestling Team from 1979 – 1988.
