MOst valuable player of the just concluded South West Rugby League, Christian Ogar, has pleaded with government and corporate bodies to identify with the rugby league to encourage young talented Nigerians to take to the sport.

Ogar, who plays for South West Rugby League champions, Cowrie RFC, noted that winning the most valuable player award would spur him to work hard to be among the best rugby players in the world, adding that diligence and determination to excel was the secret behind his recent achievement.

“I thank God that I won the most valuable player award, but AI want to say that as a player discovered at the grassroots, hard work has taken thus far.

“Nigeria has many untapped talents and I want to appeal to sports stakeholders to identify with rugby by sponsoring the league. This way we can get the youths to take to the game.

“Outside football, rugby is the second most popular sport in South Africa. Rugby can excel in the country if assistance is given to players. My target is to continue giving my best to the national team and my club, Cowrie FC,” he said.

Ogar disclosed that his major challenge was to give his best in the forthcoming Rugby SevensIndependence Championship, adding that the championship would give him the opportunity to test his skills against international rugby players.
