NSC unveils $166.550 Team Nigeria All Africa Games kits

THE National Sports Commission (NSC) yesterday unveiled the Team Nigeria kits for the All Africa Games, which is billed to hold from September 4 to 19 in Brazzaville, Congo.

Unveiling the Nigerian colours in Abuja, Director General of the NSC, Alhassan Yakmut, disclosed that the country would take part in a total of 20 sports, adding that 573 athletes and officials would fly the country’s flag at the games.

The NSC boss also disclosed that the commission had enlisted the services of Marks Air as the official airline to ferry athletes to and from the games at 35 per cent discount.

Yakmut, who announced the Team Nigeria’s programme for the games in Abuja, gave a breakdown of the athletes to include 201 male and 178 female athletes, who would be led by 79 coaches and 40 medical personnel.

Others listed for the continental sports fiesta include 25 para-athletes, all federation presidents, 12 federation secretaries, a chef de mission and deputy chef de mission.

According to Yakmut, the new kits, which were produced by Chinese sportswear company, Peak, was supplied at the cost of  $166,550 and freighted home by air with another $40,000, adding that the kits were procured at a discount of 40 per cent with the sponsors promising to sign a full deal that would fetch Team Nigeria $250,000 in subsequent edition of the games.

Member of the International Olympic Committee and NOC President, Habu Gumel, who witnessed the kit presentation, charged the athletes to get down to business to meet the target set by President Muhammadu Buhari.
