Followers of the Nigerian game have always known that Georgia Oboh was built for the podium. Even before she turned 10, she had demonstrated to members of the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section that in her beautiful frame resides the ingredients that make for world-beaters.

And so when on Saturday, Oboh strode to the podium after a great final round of 69 at the US Kids Golf Teen World Championship held at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, North Carolina, only a few were surprised that the teenager achieved such a feat.

At the 54-hole event that ran from July 23 through July 25, Oboh played a gross score of 76 over 18 holes on the first day, 78 on the second day and ended the Championship with a gross score of 69 on the last day.

The teen, who is currently in school and golf Academy at Manchester, United kingdom, has represented Nigeria in various international events, the most current being the 2014 Junior Golf World Championship in Florida held from December 27 to 30.

Reacting to Oboh’s feat, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Dr. Peter Deshi, expressed his satisfaction at the level of growth and achievements established so far in junior golf development in the Country.

He recalled that last year, Anita Uwadia won a gold medal, while the team of Anita, Diana Osmond, Tokunbo Pedro and Sunday Yusuf won a silver medal at the Africa Youth Games in Botswana. Anita Uwadia also won the African Shield at the British Junior Open Championship in July, he added.

To an excited NGF Director, Youths Development, Emy Ekong, Georgia’s victory was due to support from her parents and Ikoyi Golf Club.

She revealed that Dr. Nike Marino and the ladies section have really contributed a lot to the golf development of the children.

Georgia Oboh is a junior member of lkoyi Golf Club. She is an aspiring pro golfer, who enjoys music, sports and meeting other young golfers.
Ekong added that Oboh plays handicap +1 and aims to be a great professional golfer in the future.
