MQA5795Former Super Eagles coach and now Technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Shaibu Amadu, has said that the Federation is working round the clock to begin a Beach Soccer League in the country.

Amodu was among top dignitaries present at Eko hotel, Lagos, for the unveiling of the 2015 Copa Lagos Beach Soccer, which will hold from December 18-20 at Eko Athletic City Beach, Victoria Island.

Amodu praised the organizers of Copa Lagos for sustaining the championship, saying that as the first coach that qualified Nigeria for the first international beach soccer championship in 2006, he was overwhelmed by the development of the game in the country.

Barcelona Football Club Beach Soccer team and England national beach soccer teams, will be among the top teams that would participate in this year’s event.

The managing director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu, noted that the Copa Lagos beach soccer tournament is annually organized to create awareness on the sports in the country. He also stated that the event was another avenue to discover talents in beach soccer.

“Beach soccer started in 2011 and this year edition is the fifth. The sport has grown beyond the first ever international beach soccer event to take place in Nigeria and in all Sub-Saharan Africa.

Copa Lagos grew from a four Nation round robin tournament to club challenge with the introduction of FC Barcelona experience at the fourth edition in 2014.

This year challenge will be unique as the organizers are preparing other Nigerian club sides.
