Mozico, Adonai qualify for Lagos Grassroots Cup quarterfinal
Mozico of Egbeda and former finalist, Adonai FC have qualified for the quarterfinal of the on-going Lagos Grassroots Cup, which has also seen the emergence of Global FC and Sammy of Ijegun in the last eight.
Mozico defeated Latter Day of Ejigbo by 5 to 3 penalties after the regulation time had ended 1-1.
They will face 2014 finalist, Adonai, which saw off New Generations 11- 10 on penalties after full time ended goalless.
Global FC produced the biggest upset of the competition when they defeated three-times winner, Future Heroes of Aboru 3-0.
Last year’s bronze medalist, Sammy of Ijegun beat 2015 champion, Igando Academy 5-4 also through a penalty shoot out, just as Newstar defeated Wusu FC of Sango 1-0 to set up a clash with 2013 champion, Midas of Ipaja.
The last quarterfinal match will feature 2002 champion, Raymond of Iju against Abisco Babes owned by Mosan Okunola Council Development Area.
Teams in the Lagos Grassroots Cup, which started as Abesan Cup in 1999, are fighting for a new trophy donated by Mrs. Clementina Doregos.
