LASPOTECH Rector’s Tennis Cup serves off

The competition was declared open at the weekend by the Deputy Rector of the institution, Mr. Tajudeen Sonayon Nurudeen, who represented the rector, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro.

The maiden edition of LASPOTECH Rector’s Tennis Cup has served off at the main campus of Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The competition was declared open at the weekend by the Deputy Rector of the institution, Mr. Tajudeen Sonayon Nurudeen, who represented the rector, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro.
 
Explaining the competition, the Rector said it was LASPOTEC’s special policy to identify with sports and games, adding that in the past 12 years the institution had maintained its number one position in tennis both at the Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) and West African Polytechnic Games (WAPOGA). 
 
The deputy rector used the occasion to call on corporate organizations to help the institution promote sporting activities by sponsoring or branding event centers in the institution.He announced that the institution had decided to convert the former Department of Mathematics building to the tennis club to boost the club’s activities. 

 
The competition, which is solely for members of the LASPOTECH Tennis Club, will end on December 10.A member of the club revealed that the LASPOTECH Tennis Club was founded in 2007, adding, “We decided to embrace tennis as our friend to keep fit and to stay alive. We have been organizing games and tournaments but this one is remarkable.”
 
Some of members featuring in the singles event are Tony Onwualu, Mohammed Daudu, Joe Ben, Femi Oluwadeko, Wasiu Aioyehun, Abiodun Adesokan, Niyi Yinusa and Qudus Bernard.

Among those playing in the doubles are Odesanya Olasunkanmi, Niyi Yinusa, Odunsi Leigh, Fapohunda Bayo, Mojeed Sanni, Ahmed Sanni, Isaac Omolumo, Adepoju Gbolega, Emma Anikigbe, Tony Okosode, Goke Ogunoye, Fisayo Alo, Kunle Gentle Volley, Yemi Adesiran, Aliu Kayode and Bankole Yukub
