Over 46 pairs would converge at the high brow Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate from September 12 for this year’s regional finals of the International Pairs Golf Championship, which the prestigious Lagos club would be hosting for the first time.

The one-day stableford, all-score count competition, according to the Chief Executive Officer of Falcons Golf Development Company Limited, the new franchise holder of the event in Nigeria, Remi Olukoya, would feature over 46-pairs, but slots for 16-pairs have already been taken.

According to Olukoya, the remaining slots for 30-pairs would be given out on first come first serve basis. Winners of the competition would be given an all expense paid trip to the world finals of International Pairs holding at Marriott Denia, Alicante, in Spain in October this year.

Speaking in Lagos during the week, Olukoya said the repackaged International Pairs competition would be given its best shot ever, saying every participants in this year’s edition will have something to cheer about.

Besides the all-round entertainment, Olukoya says it will be golf at its very best and will produce quality winners. “We will give this event our best shot.

I can assure you that it’s going to be one of the best-organised events ever. We have made good arrangement to take care of all the participants.

And unlike the previous editions, the 2015 International Pairs will be a ‘shotgun’ format, so that we have enough time to enjoys ourselves,” Olukoya said.

While all attention seems focused on the coming event, Olukoya says his ultimate dream is the future of the game, explaining that he is already working on a dream of establishing the first of its kind Golf academy in parts of Lagos State that will take care of kids and the future of the game.

We are looking for ways to accommodate kids in all our events and so we have on our card this year, free golf coaching lessons for select schools in Lagos State. This will go on while the adults are on the golf course playing.”

Aside the International Pairs Championship, the Transatlantic Golf Team Challenge is scheduled to come up from November 20 to 22 at IBB Golf & Country Club Abuja.

The winners at this event will be representing Nigeria at the world Finals in Las Vegas, USA in February 15-22, 2016.
