Iwobi named in EPL team of the week, Iorfa ends tie with Ipswich Town

Super Eagles and Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi has been named in the Premier League Team of the Week for the latest round of matches ending May 6, 2018.

Whoscored has selected the best performing player for each position and the Hale End Academy product was listed among the four midfielders.

Iwobi was picked in central midfield along with West Ham’s Senegal international Cheikhou Kouyaté and they were flanked by Arsenal winter signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 22-year-old had a player rating of 8.8 and only Aubameyang with 9.5 was awarded more marks that the Nigerian whizkid.

The Gunners number seventeen has recorded 24 appearances in the English top-flight this season, of which 20 were starts, scoring three goals and provided five assists.

Iwobi had a game-high three shots, touched the ball 103 times which was the best among the players on the pitch, made one tackle, two interceptions and one clearance against the Clarets at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, one-time Nigeria Football Federation target, Dominic Iorfa, has announced that he will not be extending his stay at EFL Championship outfit Ipswich Town.

Last July, the former England U-21 star joined the Blues on a season-long loan to enable him play on a regular basis after losing his starting spot at Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The right-back played 25 matches in all competitions for Ipswich Town and had a hand in three goals, logging 1,908 minutes in total.

Writing on Twitter, Iorfa stated: ‘’Massive thanks to everyone @Official_ITFC. Really enjoyed my time at the club and I wish everyone the best in the future’’.

Ipswich Town have not yet announced their retained list but they have retweeted Iorfa’s post, which confirms that the defender is returning to the Molineux Stadium ahead of the start of pre-season training.

The 22-year-old spent a portion of the 2013-14 season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, for whom he made his professional debut.
