Iker Casillas, Russian supermodel parade World Cup trophy at opening ceremony
He coveted World Cup was presented in front of the fans at the Luzhniki Stadium by Iker Casillas and a Russian supermodel ahead of the opening ceremony.
Casillas and Natalia Vodianova paraded the trophy in a stylish Louis Vuitton case prior to kick-off in the opening game between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Former Spain and Real Madrid captain Casillas, who won the World Cup in 2010, was seen holding aloft the trophy in front of the excited fans yesterday afternoon.
Casillas showcased the trophy to all sides of the ground before making his way off the pitch in time for the pre-World Cup entertainment.
French luxury brand Louis Vuitton offered their services to produce the bespoke piece for the coveted trophy, along with teaming up with tournament sponsors Adidas to create a match ball ‘collection trunk.’
The case features laser-engraved monogram titanium and the brand’s globally recognised print.
The official trophy case is also set to be presented at the final match of the tournament on July 15.
Louis Vuitton is a popular selection among football’s big names, with the likes of World Cup pin-up star Neymar often seen both wearing the brand’s clothing and attending fashion shows detailing the latest collections.
After Casillas’ appearance on the pitch, Robbie Williams entertained the crowd by singing a hit of his classics during the colourful opening ceremony.
