Igbinoba supports Eagles’ optimism

Former Golden Eaglets star, Victor Igbinoba, has said that the draw the Pharaohs of Egypt played with the Super Eagles in the AFCON qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, was not the end of the road for Nigeria as the team still has hope of a qualification.

Speaking to The Guardian immediately after the match, Igbinoba said the coach still needed to work on the team’s defence and the attack if they were to beat Egypt.

“I think the coach has to work on the defence and the attack also because the boys are not offensive enough. Victor Moses needs to start the next match for a more attacking adventure; he played his heart out for the little time he was on the pitch, but the Egyptians were really smart. Our midfield was okay, I must commend Mikel Obi, as he really impressed me today, but I still believe the team can do much better in Egypt.

“All hope is not lost yet, in football anything can happen. Our boys can still pull a surprise in Alexandra. In Kaduna, they tried their best, which was not enough to see them defeat the stubborn Egyptians. Let us see what happens in the return leg in Egypt before we can start talking about our fate of whether we are going to qualify for the AFCON in Gabon or not.”

Asked if he saw a different Super Eagles against the Pharaohs as against the one tutored by Coach Sunday Oliseh, Igbinoba confessed not to have watched any of the matches handled by the former Eagles coach when he was in charge.
