Heartland striker, Bright Ejike, happy to end goal drought
Heartland FC leading scorer Bright Ejike has told npfl.ng, he is delighted to have put an end to his goal drought in the 1-0 win against Warri Wolves on Sunday in Owerri.
The forward who before the match day 26 fixture, was yet to find the back of the net in the second half of the season, said the goal against Wolves, will motivate him to regain back his form and help the Naze Millionaires end the campaign on a bright note.
“I am excited to have scored. The win was crucial. This will enable us push for a better end to the season. I know the games will get tough and tougher, but we will do our best to get better results.
“As the highest goalscorer for my club and second in the league, I understand the enormous pressure from the fans, but I am sure of getting better to satisfy them. I will work extra hard to score more goals as the season progresses,” Ejike told npfl.ng.
On the argument that he is a first round player, who has made less impact in the second half in the past couple of seasons. Ejike dismissed the thoughts and linked the past to managerial changes in the club.
“I remember last season that I did so well. All my goals came in the first stanza, but the second round did not favour me as a result of changes in tactics. I played out of position in most of the games. The situation is completely different now, as the coach has given me the much needed platform to continue in my role. So I hope for the best,” he added.
Ejike is the second top scorer in the Glo Premier League, with 12 goals, one behind Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji who is with 13 goals.
