Nigeria for 2010 Junior Open Championship in Scotland
In a letter to the Nigerian federation, Golf Development Officer of the world golf ruling body, the Royal and Ancient (R and A) in St Andrews, Scotland, Allison White, said the event has continued to gather momentum, adding that further information, including entry forms, would be made available to the federation next month.
The letter read in part: “The R&A is again delighted to extend an invitation to one boy and/or one girl competitor under the age of 16 (as at January 1, 2010) from your country. As in the past, the championship will cater for varying abilities of golfers, with three categories accounting for handicaps up to and including 15.
“The gold category (handicap three or less) will play for the championship title over three rounds of 18 holes. The silver category (handicaps of four to nine) and the bronze category (handicaps 10 to 15) will be contested over two rounds of 18 holes.
“Competitors will be accommodated at St Andrews University, approximately 20 minutes travel time by coach from Lundin Golf Club. This invitation includes the cost of accommodation and meals for your competitors as well as two days watching The Open Championship at St Andrews.
“Each R&A affiliated organisation is invited to send one delegate to the 2010 Junior Open. Delegates will also be accommodated at St Andrews University. The delegate fee will include accommodation, evening meals and entry to The Open Championship and in the first instance, due to restricted availability of accommodation, we will only be able to allocate one room per country for delegates.
