Fowler moves to world number five after third win

Fowler won the Deutsche Bank Championship with one big putt. Henrik Stenson might have lost it with one big mistake.

Fowler rallied from two shots behind with five holes to play by making a 40-foot birdie putt on the 14th hole. He played flawless the rest of the way for a 3-under 68 and a one-shot victory Monday at the TPC Boston.

Stenson never trailed until his tee shot on the par-3 16th came up short and bounced into the water for a double bogey. One shot behind, the Swede could never catch up and had to settle for a 70.

“Just kind of hung in there today,” Fowler said. “It’s pretty special.”

The win moved Fowler to third in the FedExCup standings in the process. The victory was Fowler’s second of the season (The Players) and third of his career.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Korean, K.T. Kim (Kyung Tae Kim), won the Fujisankei Classic in Yamanashi in Japan, the former Presidents Cup player claiming his third win of the Japan Golf Tour season.

Kim has been in fine form this season, not only winning on three occasions but producing several other good finishes.
He leads the Japan Tour money list and while an inclusion in this year’s Presidents Cup team might be a bit of a stretch, that he defeated Webb Simpson in the singles at Royal Melbourne and that he would be playing in front of home fans suggests that it is not such a crazy idea.
