AFTER watching their female counterparts lose gallantly to Ikorodu Girls, Gbagada Senior Grammar School fought hard in penalty the shootout against the Ikorodu Boys to win the districts finals of the ongoing Lagos Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) Principals' Cup.

Despite the support of the teeming fans that thronged Gbagada Sports Ground, the Gbagada Senior Grammar School girls’ team disappointed when the ovation was loudest by conceding two second half goals against the girls from Ikorodu High School. Goals from Seun Oshikoya and Bose Musa ensured that the Ikorodu team emerged winner of District Two, comprising teams from Ikorodu and Gbagada.

However, the Gbagada boys averted what could have been double losses, when the team managed to beat Oriwu Senior Model College 3-2 on penalties after 1-1 draw at full time. Gbagada’s Ani Amaechi has thrown the fans into frenzy through an early goal. But the celebration was short-lived when Oscar Akalabu equalised for the visitors.

In District Three final, which had teams from Eti Osa, Ibeju Lekki and Epe, Epetedo High School beat Akanda Dahunsi Memorial School 1-0 to win the girls’ event, while in the boys final, Epe Grammar School defeated Ilasan Community Grammar School 5-4 on penalties after playing 2-2 at full time. The match was played at St Gregory’s College, Obalende

Earlier last week, champions emerged in districts one and six, where Ikotun Senior High School, Alimosho, beat Girls Senior High School, Agege, 2-0 to win the girls’ event of District One, which had Agege, Alimosho and Ifako Ijaiye. The boys’ team from Keke High School, Ifako Ijaiye, defeated Dairy Farm Senior High School 4-2 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw, to become champion.

From District Six, Ajumoni Senior Grammar School, Okota, emerged winner in the girls’ event after thrashing Ilupeju Grammar School 3-1 in the final. Ilupeju, which represented Mushin zone, could not withstand Ajumoni Girls in the match that gave the Okota-based team the victory.

However, the conqueror of Eko Boys High School, Army Cantonment Senior Secondary School, Ikeja, met its waterloo in the final of the boys’ event of District Six when it conceded two goals against Ikeja Senior Grammar School to become runner-up from the district.
