ENYIMBA’S quest to retrieve the Glo Premier League title from Kano Pillars continued yesterday in Aba where the ‘Peoples Elephant’ beat visiting Dolphins of Port Harcourt 2-0.

Enyimba have been on a tight struggle with Sunshine Stars for the trophy, but the Aba team opened a five-point lead over their rivals from Akure two weeks ago.

The shock result of the weekend came from Akure, where Sunshine Stars lost their first home game of the season to Nasarawa United, which ran away with a 3-2 win. They consolidated their grip on the log with goals from Andrew Abalogu and Ifeanyi Anaemena.

Sunshine Stars’ started the game against Nasarawa United brightly, with Okiki Afolabi opening the score in the first minute. But Nasarawa United did not allow the early setback to stop them, as they took over the game from thence and leveled up two minutes into the second half through Thomas Zenke.

Esosa Igbinoba doused the home team’s hope of victory in the 62nd minute with the Solid Miners’ second goal, but Afolabi restored parity. The Akure team were left to rue Tunde Adeniji’s missed penalty when Igbinoba scored his second of the game 18 minutes from time.

Warri Wolves, who are now second on the table, recorded a 3-0 win against Kwara United, with Kufre Ebong scoring the curtain raiser for the hosts in the 45th minute.

Joseph Osadiaye got the second in the 58th minute with Stanley Dimgba scoring the third seven minutes later. The highly anticipated old derby clash between Rangers and 3SC ended 2-1 in favour of the Flying Antelopes.

Tope Orelope gave the Oluyole Warlords the lead in the 23rd minute, with Emmanuel Eze (31st) and Osas Okoro (40th) helping their side win the tie. Sharks and Taraba United eased their relegation worries courtesy of 1-0 wins against FC IfeanyiUbah and Giwa respectively. It was the first time Taraba United will be earning a win over Giwa FC in the top flight after four attempts.

Heartland lost 1-0 against Akwa United in Uyo, while Kano Pillars beat Abia Warriors 3-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium. In the last game of the day, Lobi Stars and Wikki Tourists played out a 1-1 draw in Makurdi.
