El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri on Sunday in Katsina produced a brilliant performance to stun title holders Enyimba International FC of Aba 2-0.

The game was a Match Day 5 fixture in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In the match played at the Karkanda stadium, El-Kanemi Warriors showed promising intent from the first blast of the whistle.

They had Chinedu Ohanachom, Ibrahim Mustapha and Ezekiel Thompson unrelentingly troubling the Enyimba backline.

Ohanachom was to draw the first blood after 13 minutes of play, after hitting the roof of the net from close range off an assist by Cameroonian Isaac Hele-Hele.

The host team continued to dominate possession until the break and it was Ohanachom who came close to a brace, but he was denied by goalkeeper Joel Afelokhai.

The defending champions made little impact without a glaring goal scoring chance in the first half.

Enyimba’s trio of Ugochukwu Leonard, Mfon Udoh and Kamal Sikiru were only seen to fire wide from even close range.

Ibrahim Mustapha scored the game’s second goal from a goalmouth scramble in the 54th minute.

NAN reports that El-Kanemi Warriors will now visit Lagos next Sunday for a date with hosts MFM FC, while Enyimba host Heartland FC of Owerri.
