Dogara hails Team Nigeria
Wants early preparations for Rio 2016 Olympics
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has hailed members of Team Nigeria for their gallant performance at the just concluded African Games in Congo Brazzaville.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, the Speaker said the athletes have done Nigeria proud by finishing in second place in the overall medals table.
Dogara said the specular performance displayed by the athletes in Congo “is reflective of the true Nigerian spirit and worthy of commendation.”
The Speaker added that the performance of Team Nigeria has demonstrated that with unity of purpose, hard work and determination, there is nothing that is not achievable.
He disclosed that the National Assembly would continue to make budgetary provisions for the improvement of welfare of athletes in addition to providing modern sporting facilities.
The Speaker urged members of Team Nigeria to work hard towards securing the first position in the next African Games.
Dogara also tasked both authorities of the sport ministry, various sporting federations and the athletes on early preparation for the Rio Olympics in Brazil next year, saying, “with your encouraging performance at the African Games, we expect you to improve on it in next year’s Olympics in Brazil.”
He said government was determined to provide the conducive atmosphere for all young people to realise their potentials in life.
