Delta Force’s experience yesterday came to the fore when the Asaba-based team thrashed Nigeria Immigration Women Basketball Club 62 to 37 to continue their unbeaten start in the ongoing 2016 Zenith Bank Women Basketball League taking place in Abuja.

Powered by forward, Uju Agbotan’s 23 points and four rebounds, as well as 10 points apiece from Esther Igben and Ogoh Bolum, the South-South Queens pulled an unassailable lead against their opponents from the blast of the whistle, running through the first quarter with 26 to 8 lead.

The Immigration girls put up a fight in the second quarter, limiting Delta Force to just 12 points but poor execution on offence meant they themselves put up just six points in the quarter.

The teams maintained the status quo in the third and fourth quarters with the scores at 13-6,11-7 respectively, thus giving victory to the Delta Force, who remained in second place in Group A behind champions, Dolphins.

In other results of the day, Nasarawa Amazons defeated Taraba Hurricanes 43 to 32, while Oluyole fell to AHIP Queens of Kano 37 to 46.

Meanwhile, Head coach of Dolphins Basketball Club, Ochuko Okworogwu, believes despite the victories it is still early days to call them back to back champions.

“We have started well but it is not enough for us to be comfortable. This is phase One, we still have phase two and the playoffs to go before we can begin to talk about winning the league. Besides we still make mistakes as a team, which we must work to correct as we move on”. Coach Ochuko added.
