The journey to stardom for the next set of Nigerian soccer stars got underway at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Monday.The 2017 edition of the Summer Football Camp for youngsters organized by Multisports Services and Entertainment Limited was officially opened by President-General of Nigerian Football and other Sports Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, who came with some member of his club to support the grassroots development programme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, of Multisports CEO, Godwin Dudu-Orumen thanked Ladipo for identifying with the Summer Football Camp, even as he expressed great satisfaction with the grand take off on Monday.“Today is the first day of the three weeks camp and we have five age grades here.

“We look forward to three weeks of entertainment, good mental and physical conditioning. We will also be expecting eminent Nigerians from the public and private sector to give motivational talks to the children,” he said.

With over 150 kids taking part in the summer football camp, Orumen hinted that local and foreign scouts were expected to be part of the programme, adding that a number of ex-internationals were also confirmed to have sessions with the kids.

“From next week, we will be welcoming the ex-internationals… we want them to meet a settled side so the first week is more of registration and conditioning for the children,” he stated.

Former Barcelona star, Gbenga Okunowo, Henry Nwosu, Peter Rufai and Jonathan Akpoborie are among the former internationals expected at the camp.Meanwhile, former President the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chjioke Okoli (SAN) was also present at the National Stadium to support the summer camp.

He said: “With projects like this, you are killing multiple birds with a stone; you get the children gainfully busy, make them healthy and also allow them exhibit their talents.”A cross section of the parents present expressed delight with the top notched organization put in place at this year’s summer camp.
