BULUS Christopher and Ashogba Toyinat the weekend emerged winners of the maiden Members LSDPC Medium Tennis Players Scheme Four Junior Open Championships.

The championships, organised by the residents of the estate, was a way of engaging the kids during vacation through exposing them to tennis.

In the Boys 16 and under final, Bulus defeated Michael Osewa, in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-4, while in the girls’ category, Ashogba defeated Peace Udoh 4-0, 4-2.

In some of the other finals on Sunday, Kushima Usman beat Ajanaku Abdul in the Boys 10 & Under 4-0, 4-0, as Yakubu Oiza defeated Basirat Okunola 4-0, 4-1 in the girls’ event.

In the closed tournament, organised solely for the kids living within the estate, Ebuka Alozie beat Tomisin Osunaike 4-0, 4-0 in the boys’ category, just Ohunene Yakubu defeated Osaherun Osayinwen in the girls’ event.

Speaking after the tournament, MLMTP club captain, Mr. Pelumi Adeniran, said it was an eye opener as they would be aiming to make it bigger next year.

“There were a lot of skeptics when we came up with the idea of the championships,” he said. “I am happy that it was a success and people can now see that we are not on a white elephant project.
