Bendel Insurance of Benin continued its pre-season preparation on a positive note as it over the weekend defeated Ikorodu United 1-0 through a 90th minute goal by Agu Chukwu Nonso.

The match, witnessed by an impressive turn out of spectators, had everyone at the edge of their seats as both teams went for each other’s jugular from the blast of the beginning of the match.

Just as the game was heading for a 0-0 final scoreline, a powerful shot from the edge of the 18 yard box by left footer, Nonso proved too hot to handle for the Ikorodu United goal tender, who could only look on in disappointment as the ball rested in the net.

Speaking after the match, the Dutch gaffer of Ikorodu United, Coach Teyrio said he has achieved his purpose for coming to Benin.

“We wanted to see our team’s altitude, especially in away games; how they would behave themselves and implement instructions given in training in a match situation. This was a good opportunity because Bendel Insurance is a good technical side,” he said.

Coach Baldwin Bazuaye, who spoke on behalf of Bendel Insurance technical crew, said the team played to instructions.

“Today’s game is a good outing but we saw one or two lapses we have to correct. Ikorodu United is not a bad side. Our boys came out to do what we asked them to do in the Second half,” he added.
