Bayelsa stakeholders want Egbe as FA chairman

The campaign for the chief executive officer of Monimichelle to become the new Bayelsa Football Association (FA) chairman continues to gather steam with some grassroots foot5ball coaches joining the fray. This call is coming just a few weeks after Bayelsa hosted its first ever major national football game, the Aiteo Cup women’s final in Yenagoa.

The stakeholders believe that Egbe, who reconstructed the Samson Siasia Stadium, venue of the AITEO Cup final, has the quality to lift the state’s football.

One of the campaigners, a promoter of Grassroots football in the state, who pleaded anonymity, observed that Egbe, a FIFA match agent, is at home with those who run the game at the national level and would bring his connections to bear on football in the state if given the mandate to run Bayelsa football.

“As a state, we have to present our first 11 always for every position if we are to get things right. We have seen that in this business of football, Egbe is right now on top of his game. He has great ideas. He has the panache and the contacts. He is the kind of person we need to lead our FA. We are going to give him all the support if he decided to vie for the state FA chairmanship position,” he said.

Recently during a meeting with Bayelsa State Governor, Seriaki Dickson, Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick had described Egbe as an institution in the country’s football. Pinnick praised Egbe for the job he is doing in the area of pitch construction.

This was acknowledged by Dickson, who described Egbe as a worthy son of Bayelsa, who the state government would continue to partner in the bid to become the nation’s home of sports.
