Argentina Camp Good For Golden Eaglets, Says Obuh
Former Golden Eaglets Coach, John Obuh, has said that plans by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to camp the boys in Argentina ahead of next month’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, would instill confidence in the players.
Obuh explained that it was important for the Eaglets to acclimatize in Argentina since Chile shares the same climatic condition with them. He noted that the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke tutored side needs to be given all the necessary support from any quarter to excel at the championship.
Obuh, who is the technical adviser of Ifeanyi Ubah FC, also called on Nigerians to rally round the team as they prepare for the battle of Chile, adding that the Golden Eaglets are the future of the country’s national teams.
“If NFF wants to camp the Golden Eaglets in Argentina, I think they should be fast about it because it will enable the boys acclimatize properly before moving into Chile. The exposure they got at the invitational championship in Korea will also go a long way in spurring the boys to putting in a good performance in the World Cup. Nigeria is the defending champions of the U-17 World Cup, and the boys need the best encouragement and assistance to replicate the achievement of their predecessors,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets who are presently in Katsina State in continuation of their preparation for the cadet World Cup, are expected to depart Nigeria next week for a training camp in Argentina. It will last for three weeks before leaving for Chile.
Nigeria won the last edition of the U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013. They qualified for the 2015 edition with a fourth place finish at the African U-17 Championship held earlier this year in Niger Republic.
