Alao House has emerged winner of the fourth biennial Newlife Schools Inter-House Sports competition held at the CAC Camp Ground, Aboki Avenue, Abaranje, Lagos.

The House came tops at the end of all events with 13 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze medals to relegate Akinnaso House to second position, which won 11 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals. Okwara House was third with 10 gold, eight silver and 15 bronze while defending champion, Tijani House, was fourth with nine gold, 13 silver and nine bronze.

Speaking to The Guardian on the occasion, the Head-teacher, Mrs. Gbemisola Emiebor, who explained the importance of competition among students, said the essence of sports was to exercise the body as well as trigger the students’ mental alertness.

“There is need to encourage some of these children who are talented in some sports and you may never can tell who among them may end up taking a career in any of the sports. This is the avenue where these types of children could easily be discovered and be assisted to develop their potentials. It is not out of place to say that some of these children may not make it academically but excel in sports,” she said.
