Celebrate homegrown Valentine’s Day in African inspired collection from Amaebi Concepts

It’s true the tales of Valentine’s Day did not originate from our shores, but we have come to love the history and also imbibe the concept! The red wines, scarlet chocolate boxes and cakes, ruby-themed hampers and gifts, plus the crimson cum pink lingerie and clothes- all set the mood for the season of passion, as observed here and in the Western world.

Since red is the colour of passion, some creative Nigerian designers have also resolved to capture this colour of the season in proudly-African designs, and one of such brilliant designers is award-winning journalist and fashion designer Ibiba Don Pedro.

The Creative Director at Amaebi Concepts, who recently unveiled her new collection dubbed Valentine Speaks Africana, describes the latest collection: “The theme of our collection, is an African-inspired Valentine. We are a communal people and so Valentine is not simply a boy meets girl story. It is a family affair; children are welcome too.

It’s also about giving, sharing, forgiving, inspiring. It’s about us, our fabrics, our designs, including those we borrowed through our colonial experience and now made completely ours.

“And the celebration is not just for one day or one night, but to last through the year. These are the values and mores behind Amaebi as a Clothing brand, too.

The colours for the season are just us, loud, lively bold- reds, hot pinks mixed with blues, greens, black and white, wine in addition to plenty of cream and wine!

Why don’t you get into the mood of the season, celebrate love the proudly-African way!
