The late Koripamo was born in Kaiama, Bayelsa State on December 26, 1910, to Mr. Jacob Fetapou (Fetepigi in Nembe) Amaran and Timiebi Kemmer of Twon-Brass in Bayelsa State.  She was the last surviving grandchild of King Amaran Odi Odo of Kaiama, who saved the Lander brothers during one of their expeditions in the Niger Delta.

She attended St. Barnabas’ School, Twon-Brass and completed her primary and post primary education at the famous St. Monica’s Girls School, Ogbunike, in present day Anambra State, in 1930.  From 1931 to 1933, she trained at the reputable Iyi-Enu Anglican Mission Hospital and qualified as a Nurse/Midwife. She excelled at Iyi-Enu and earned her place as number one in the Register of the National Midwives Board.

She received several honours including the National Honours Award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

She had six children, including Dr. Timiebi Koripamo-Agary, OON, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary. She will be buried on March 14, this year, and will be missed by her family and by many others whose lives were touched by her love.
