In a bid to promote good health and hygiene, especially for children, SPAR Nigeria has provided Primary Healthcare Centres in Somolu and Lagos Island LGA with water dispensers and a year’s supply of clean water from its affiliate company, Cascade Nigeria.

Stressing the need for more private sector partnership with the government in providing basic amenities to suburban and rural communities, Spokesperson for SPAR Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Isangediok stated that every Nigerian irrespective of their social status deserves clean water adding that Nigeria, like other developing countries, have people suffering from diseases caused by poor water, sanitation, and hygiene.

According to Mr. Isangediok, “we targeted the primary health centers because we discovered that many members of these local governments are unable to afford treatment in private hospitals. We also noticed that when patients are being treated they usually have to ingest medication. Many times, the water used in taking these medications are not properly processed and as such, pose health threats to the patients.’’

The Nurse in Charge, Coker Primary Healthcare Centre, Somolu Mrs. Otah expressed gratitude to SPAR for reaching out to the Centre to provide a brand new water dispenser and clean drinking water.

Speaking on behalf of the Araromi Health Centre, Mrs. Idris commended the efforts of SPAR adding that water is life and wished the hypermarket success in all its endeavors as providing a year’s supply of water is a good example to other private bodies to emulate in their host communities.

Initiated in 2015, ‘My SPAR Cares’ initiative has continued to impact host communities and children; providing support in various capacities such as aerobics and breakfast sessions, inter-school learning competitions, supporting Dance Workshops etc.

The Hypermarket, which is set to launch its 12th store in Nigeria has reiterated its position in improving lives and developing host communities across the country. Besides offering the best consumer and household items at the most competitive prices, reaching out to youths and enhancing employment opportunities are amongst its primary societal goals for 2017.
