In a bid to remind Nigerians where we stand as a nation after 58 years of independence and the dangers of elevating holders of political offices to almost ‘god-like’ status especially in this season of political inauguration, Dike Chukwumerije, a performance poet recently examined sub-themes around the relationship between ordinary citizens in Nigeria and the political class who use political powers to subdue the will of the masses, at his Night of Spoken Words (NSW) show in Abuja during the nation’s 58th Independence anniversary.

Residents of Abuja were treated to a two-hour stage performance of Chukwumerije’s entertaining blend of spoken word, story telling and poetry production, titled Man-Made Gods where he narrated the ordeal of citizen who are deprived of basic amenities and saddled with constant resort of leaders to religious sentiments and painting of outsiders and non-indigenes as the “problem” as a cover for non-performance and mediocrity.

Man-Made Gods is Chukwumerije’s ninth NSW event and with it the poet once again showed his capacity for using spoken words to remind Nigerians to consider where they are coming from and where they are going.
