Organisers of the fair, South Saharan Social Development Organization (SSDO), in a statement by its Programme Manager, Onyinye Nwachukwu, said that the event with the theme, ‘Showcasing the Can-do Spirit’ under its Ola Ndi Igbo (Jewell of the East) project, will feature over 25 innovations and inventors from the Southeast zone that was shortlisted from over 100 applications.

According to Nwachukwu, the programme would not only encourage the drive to excel in the various areas of professionalism by the innovators, but project the southeast as one of the zones in the country where innovators and inventions are valued.

“It is also a response to the recession and to halt the disregard for innovation in the country which has been the trend since independence despite the abundance of scientists and technologists”, she said

She stated that apart from the NBPlc Life lager prize of one million naira support, other establishments like the Ford Foundation, MTN Nigeria, Ellington Company, Fidelity Bank, Radio Nigeria, NOTAP and many others have indicated interest to sponsor prizes for the winners.

Schedule to hold at the Oakland Events Centre, Nwachukwu explained that the 25 shortlisted inventors would also receive training on patenting, financial management, how to run business, marketing and branding. She added that over 1000 visitors from within and outside the country are expected to attend the fair.
