ABSU-5-12-15-The new Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), Prof. Uche Ikonne, has told the university community that he will effect necessary changes in the 34-year old state university.

Addressing academic and non-academic staff, the new VC expressed worry that the national ranking of the school has dropped from 87th position in 2014 to 93rd in 2015. In his agenda titled, “ My Mandate -–Our Story Must Change”, he said the poor ranking of ABSU gives a poor external perception and tends to undermine the commendable strides and laudable inputs made by previous administrations.

He promised to open up the university to national and international interactions by focusing and addressing the global parameters for ranking of universities, which he listed as, teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), industry income (innovation) and international outlook (staff, students and research).
