Minjin: My everyday life is music

Music producer, artist, song writer and talented painter Minjin Adewale Lawanson Jnr. who was formerly signed to Kennis music, where he gain fame has said that for him, music is his way of life.

While not many may know that he has found a fortune in painting, which he is fully involved in, Minjin still has a hold in music.

“Music comes to me naturally, I can record songs doing almost anything, but for the paintings, those who buy them don’t care about the music side of me.

They are not buying the art because I am a musician, some don’t like music and this comes once in a while and during art exhibitions, but music is my everyday life.”

Having put up his first single in 2010, Minjin is set release an EP of 50 collection of his songs, with no album yet to his name.

Recounting his experience with Kennis music, the artistes cum actor said, “I came in with only one goal; to sing and be heard, but then at that time, the label has too many artistes, about 10 of us including Idris Abdulkareem, Essence Jaywon, and Kenny Saint Brown, I was the last signee.

They told me we will have to wait for the sequence to drop songs and so I end up waiting for months.”

He noted that music sells faster and gives you popularity depending on how quick you churn them out and then endorsements and show follows which guarantees you more money.

They had more than they could promote at a time. It got to a time where enough funds were not available to push my songs.

“Fans don’t understand its promotion, we had one manager for all of us, we requested for another manager but wasn’t allowed.

I was there for five years of my life, I left there and worked with a management company in Malaysia, now I am independent and back home.”

Minjin also played the lead role in the movie Newman Street, which is a project of the USAID and UNICE.
