Emeka Omeruah’s daughter, Chigul, hits town with Banana Island Ghost

Chioma Omeruah, otherwise known as Chigul, is the lovely daughter of the late Commodore Samson Emeka Omeruah, a former governor of Anambra State and minister for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture during the regimes of Generals Muhammadu Buhari, Sani Abacha and Abdulsalam Abubakar.

Chigul, popularly known as the multi-lingual Nigerian female comedian, whose attribute of perseverance, hardwork and talents in music, drama and comedy have paved way for her, not just as a comedian of note, but as an all-round artiste. She is well versed in the art of quality entertainment as she is in her command of the various languages she speaks.

Chioma, while speaking during the week on the new effort, threw more light on her role in her new work, Banana Island Ghost (BIG). “It is my first feature film, so it was an amazing opportunity. I have been a part of it from inception, like going through ideas on what to do.

“When BB wrote it and he first showed us, we were like, ‘nice story.’ We were changing things, going ahead and having table reads, sitting down and tweaking. So, I feel like this is really a part of my life and this is also like my baby.

“So, it is a lot of pressure, because it feels like I am carrying the film on my head, being my first feature. I just feel that for anyone who wants to laugh, come see this film, that is what it is for.

“It is supposed to make you laugh, make you think a bit, touch your heart a little bit and all that,” Chigul said.

She also explained that the movie is something all Nigerians need to see to address some of their differences as a people, adding that love is the best unifier.

She added: “Actually, it is about love at the end of the day. We all need it, we all want it, we all want acceptance and fulfillment, emotionally and otherwise, and I think at the end of the film, everyone will be wowed, entertained and touched.

“I want people to leave the cinemas and say I want to see it again, I’m going to bring people to see it, I want to watch it again. It makes me laugh.”

The actress concluded that a lot of her could be found in the character she plays in the movie. “The thing is, Chioma is my real name. So, there are aspects of Chigul that come into Chioma, because they are one and the same.

“People who live with me would tell you that I am like this all the time. I just feel like life doesn’t have to be so serious, so I try to find the fun in almost everything I do. I entertain, so I am like this all the time.

“I can be giving this interview and I am not keeping a straight face, just like my character in the movie.”

BIG is a slapstick movie about a ghost scared to go to heaven because he doesn’t have a soulmate. So, he convinces God to give him three days to fall in love.

Ijeoma, played by Chigul, who will do anything to save her father’s house in Banana Island from the bank coming to reclaim it in three days.

BIG also stars Ali Nuhu, Bimbo Manuel, Damilola Adegbite, Dorcas Fapson, Patrick Diabuah, Saheed Balogun, Tomiwa Edun and Uche Jombo.
