TO revive the hi-life music industry in Ghana which has for some time been overshadowed by other forms of music such as hip-life and hip-hop, the World Bank in collaboration with stakeholders is organizing ‘Hi-Life Festival Ghana 2010’. The event, which is the brain-child of Mark Okraku Mantey, is aimed at re-branding and projecting the Ghanaian hi-life music as well as honouring hi-life musicians whose talents have continued to put the Ghanaian brand of music on the international map.

Mantey, in a short speech, said organizers have not yet fixed a date for the festival but revealed that it will hold at various locations in Ghana. He noted that hi-life music has been neglected to the point that it has been listed in the ‘endangered species’ category.

He expressed delight that various stakeholders have decided to come on board to pool resources together to arrest the apparent collapse of the hi-life music industry.
