Auntie Zainab Bukky Ajayi Is Graciously Aging
CONGRATULATORY messages have not stopped pouring in for the octogenerian actress, Zainab Bukky Ajayi, since she turned 82 on February 2.
The veteran actress has been receiving visitors and responding to telephone calls of best wishes since news broke that she was aging with grace.Auntie Bukky, as younger colleagues call her, is a veteran actress of vast credit.
She has hugged both the stage and screen and is best known for her inimitable performance in the Andrew Dosumu well-travelled film, Mother of George and in some Nollywood movies, including the 2004 feature Indecent Girl and the 1998 movie Witches.
Clearly, a living legend of the stage and screen, Auntie Bukky began her career on screen as an announcer, presenter and newscaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
While at that, Ajayi, who studied drama at the Stanislavsky Institute of Drama, London found time to feature in some soaps and series produced on NTA.
The now rested Village Headmaster series is one programme that benefitted from her expert portrayal.A mother, grandmother, great grandmother and acting auntie to a lot of young people, the iconoclastic actress has been playing host to a number of her acting children.
One of them, Yvonne Jegede, who described the olding actress as “a diva…queen…an icon and a blessing,” spent valuable time with the actress on Monday.
“I celebrate you today and always. Mama of life, I love you today, tomorrow, next tomorrow, next year, and many more years to come.
You are a blessing to me; you watched me grow in Nollywood and took me in as your daughter.
“I am grateful to God for making you Mummy Bukky Ajayi a part of my life,” she said, as she hugged the actress, who just kept a telling smile.
