As part of activities to mark this year’s Democracy Day, comedian and OAP Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, will tomorrow host his annual live performance, Yaw Live On Stage. This edition will feature Yaw alongside talented singer Sound Sultan in a two-man cast play Apere, which literarily translates to ‘basket’ in Yoruba language.

Holding at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, starting with a red carpet reception at 6pm, the show will be spiced with musical performances by some of the leading acts in the Nigerian music industry, including Harrysong, Skales, Korede Bello, Humblesmith, Pepenazi, Duncan Mighty, Solidstar, Iyanya, Sugar Boy and others. It is expected that notable comedians will also be on hand to thrill guests.

Apere aims to take a holistic view at issues bordering on Nigeria as a nation by satirically highlighting the societal ills and causing a re-awakening in the minds of Nigerians at the same time. No doubt, both Yaw and Sound Sultan have proved themselves to be all-round and versatile successful entertainers over the years and fans can only expect to be blown away by their on-stage antics.

Speaking ahead of the show, which is expected to bring together key players in the country’s showbiz industry, Yaw said, “We’ve had so many rehearsals; Sound Sultan and I have put our all into bringing the best performance to everyone who attends. I can only tell Nigerians to expect a night of uninterrupted fun and laughter at Apere this year,” he assured.

Being the 9th edition of the project, Yaw is doing everything possible to make the show worth the while.“I couldn’t be more excited that we are at the 9th edition of the show. I’m grateful to everyone for the support so far and I can only say that Apere is going to be the most entertaining performance Nigerians have ever witnessed yet,” he said.

On his involvement in this year’s show, singer Skales said, “Yaw Live On Stage is one of the biggest shows in Nigeria and Yaw is a friend of mine and a lover of my music. I can’t wait to join him on stage and fans are going to love what we have in store of them on May 28. It’s the never say never season people, see you there,” he said.

Apere is a follow-up from last year’s show titled Shalanga, which also had a stage play featuring Yaw and top-rated comedian Ayo ‘AY’ Makun. Apart from being a sold-out show, Shalanga play host to some of the movers and shakers of the entertainment industry and some VIPs, including Former First Lady of Lagos State Mrs Abiombola Fashola, Don Jazzy, Stephanie Okereke, RMD, Ali Baba, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Timaya, Reminisce, Patoranking and many others.
