Sanwo-Olu, others pledge better support for Red Cross at investiture

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said he will provide additional support to the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), to help it achieve its goals.

This was made known at an investiture ceremony of the governor and patrons held in Lagos recently.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG), Mrs. Hundeyin, reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting humanitarian causes and fostering community resilience.


Hundeyin lauded the organisation’s dedication to alleviating human suffering and emphasised the impact of their collective actions on the welfare and well-being of residents.

During his presentation, Country Manager of the British Red Cross, Karsten Voigt said the investiture was not merely a ceremonial affair but a reminder of the profound impact these individuals have had on countless lives, locally and globally.

The organisation also recognised and celebrated the contributions of its patron and platinum members. Amidst a backdrop of solidarity and gratitude, the evening witnessed a remarkable display of honour and reverence for those who have dedicated their lives to serving humanity.

Exceptional individuals whose extraordinary efforts have set them apart as true humanitarians were recognized, amongst whom were former First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; Dr. Abayomi Finnih; Dr. Bintu-Fatima Tinubu; Erelu Abiola Dosumu; Dr. Jide Idris and Mrs. Elizabeth Alonge. Sanwo-Olu was also honoured as a patron of the society.

In honoring them, the NRCS not only paid tribute to their remarkable achievements but reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to serving the most vulnerable and marginalised members of society.

Speaking, the chairperson of the Lagos State NRCS, Kolawole said they hope to gain from the wealth of experience of the awardees and further their humanitarian goals even more. She called on philanthropists and corporate organisations to partner with them in providing services including disaster response, first aid, abandoned children and social support among others.
