Rita Dominic Reveals She Worked As Caregiver In UK

Nigerian actress Rita Dominic has disclosed that she took a caregiver job in the United Kingdom after taking a break from her acting career in Nigeria.

Dominic, who graced the screen with her captivating performances, said she took a step back from her rising acting career to deal with personal challenges between 2001 and 2002.

“Many of you do not know but in 2001/2002 I stopped acting, I left the industry, I moved to London because it was a very dark period of my life,” Rita Dominic said at the Women of Valour International Women’s Day event in Ghana.

“I had these issues. I just fell out with some friends I considered family and I just gave up acting for a while. I needed to get out, just leave that space for a minute.”

In London, Dominic said she found purpose in caring for adults with special needs.

“While in London, I was trying to make ends meet. I started working in a care home as a caregiver for adults with special needs,” she said.

“While some might view it as a step-down, I don’t. Taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at the time I needed it most.”

Rita Dominic’s career growth was in a significant era in the Nigerian film industry. She made her film debut in 1998 with “A Time to Kill.” Her role in the movie catapulted her into limelight.

She has starred in over 100 Nollywood movies, becoming one of the most celebrated actresses in Nigeria.
