Remembrance Day: Aiyedatiwa disburses N30m loan to 66 widows of fallen heroes in Ondo

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, yesterday, gave N30 million micro-credit revolving loans to no fewer than 66 widows of the fallen heroes in the state during the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Aiyedatiwa, who handed over cheques to the beneficiaries at the Cenotaph in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, said that the gesture was made to support their businesses to enable them to take care of their households.


The governor maintained that the loans were given out at zero interest in order not to place a burden on them as the breadwinners of their families.

Aiyedatiwa also urged the people of the state to cooperate with his administration to ensure the success of all projects and programmes initiated for the comfort of all law-abiding citizens of the state.

The governor, while commending the Nigerian Legion in areas of security in the state, said: “I want to use this medium to inform all and sundry that the Minister of Defence has added to the portfolio and responsibilities of the state chairmen of the Nigerian Legion. They are now to double as the commandants of the Nigerian Legion Corps and commissionaires.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the state government would continue to appreciate the efforts of the armed forces for their gallant works in keeping the country safe.
Sanwo-Olu gave the promise, yesterday, during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day parade and wreath-laying ceremony held at The Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square, in honour of the fallen heroes.

He said the occasion was significant as it had become a national day to pray for the departed souls, the incapacitated security personnel, serving military officers, their families and Nigeria as a nation.

Also, Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, yesterday, charged residents of the state to always cooperate with the security agencies and keep them informed of any suspicious act.

Makinde, who stated this during the grand finale of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, expressed appreciation to the officers and men of the Armed Forces for their dedication and for keeping the state and the country safe.

He promised that his administration would continue to support the widows, orphans and other dependents of the fallen heroes.

MEANWHILE, the Oyo State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Deputy Commandant General Julius Ogunkojo, yesterday, urged the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. TaoreedLagbaja, to recruit more soldiers into the Nigerian Army with a view to combating insecurity nationwide.

He made the demand during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Ibadan.
