Investors urge mass production of cookstoves

Stakeholders have called on the government to work towards promoting mass production of clean cookstoves, in line with made-in- Nigeria campaign currently on-going in the country.

Stakeholders have called on the government to work towards promoting mass production of clean cookstoves, in line with made-in- Nigeria campaign currently on-going in the country.
 
While making their position known at a forum in Abuja, they called on Ministry of Environment and Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cookstoves to continue to work on expanding access to cooking solutions.
 
They also commended the government’s efforts to boost domestic manufacturers so as to contribute to meeting the country’s obligation to United Nations climate change agreement.

 
UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina J. Mohammed,in her goodwill message, thanked stakeholders around the globe, for their commitment to clean cooking solutions, which is part of the Sustainable Development (SDGs).  
 
According to her, United Nations is committed to supporting programme and projects geared towards expanding access to clean cooking solutions across various countries of the world, including Nigeria.
 
Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibril lamented that despite Nigeria’s huge clean energy potentials, majority of households are still rely on solid biomass for cooking.
 
To him, the government is committed to local production and use of clean cookstoves, which has a capacity to help Nigerians meet its National Determined Contributions, NDCs agreed upon at Cop22.
 
He also explained that access to clean cooking solutions is the right of every citizens adding, the forum should endeavour address concrete and practical solutions to develop and expand domestic market with stoves.
 
National Coordinator, Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Mr. Ewah Eleri, acknowledged the efforts of development partners and stakeholders for moving cooking industry to the next level.
 
According to him, we are struggling to achieve objectives and urged the forum to chart a practicable way forward for the development of the sector by putting in place legislations to enhance its implementation.

Contributing, Food and Agricultural Oganisation,FAO, representative Patrick David argued that there is need for safe and environmental friendly access to fuels and energy for Internally Displaced People,IDPs.
 
He called on adequate financing of the project in order to scale-up domestic production, adding, clean cookstoves should be made available as humanitarian ground to all citizens.
