Cross River allocates land to civil servants

To make home ownership easier for its citizens, the Cross River State government has allocated plots of land to civil servants at Ikot Okon Archibong in Odukpani Local Government Area.
 
The Head of Service Mr. Ekpenyong Henshaw performed the ground- breaking ceremony to mark the land allocation, said the welfare of workers is one of the present administration’s priority.
 
Henshaw, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office in the office of the Head of Service, Mr. Emmanuel Eke observed that most civil servants retired after 35 years and continue to rent apartment, adding that, the land acquisition scheme is his pet project to add value to the lives of the workers.He noted that without one’s personal house, you cannot be at peace with yourself, family and even your landlord/ landlady. Therefore, civil servants owning land will enable them to build houses of their choice and feel accomplished.
 
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Head of Service Easy Life Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society and chairman of the land acquisition committee, Dr. Stephen Eneji, said: “The Head of Service had lamented too much about the sufferings of many civil servants in the hands of house owners, following incidences of harassment reported to his office. That with the land scheme those issues are now addressed and within a shortest time, the ugly experience will be reduced.”
 
Eneji thanked the Head of Service for the opportunity to serve in the committee and the civil servants for acquiring the land. He expect that when they have built their houses, they will enjoy the privileges of the community.He also thanked the chiefs, elders, women and youth of the community, prayed for peace and understanding among them to enhance harmonious relationship.
 
Earlier, the Clan head of Ikot Okon Archibong, His Royal Highness Etinyen Ekpo Okon Etim, said he was honoured to welcome all the beneficiaries of the scheme to the community and thanked God for making their dream of having government presence come true.He believe that with the present of civil servants in the community, social amenities would start coming their way.
