Clean cookstoves forum holds in Abuja

Plans to ensure the adoption of clean cooking by 30 million households, which could reduce about 60 million tons of CO2 emission, will be launched by the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari tomorrow.

Plans to ensure the adoption of clean cooking by 30 million households, which could reduce about 60 million tons of CO2 emission, will be launched by the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari tomorrow.
Promoted by Ministry of Environment and in partnership with Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cook stoves, will promote of domestic production of clean cook stoves, save lives, empower women, improve their livelihoods and combat climate change in the country
The organizers say that it is priority area in energy access that is central in achieving the goals of Nigeria’s National Determined Contributions, (NDCs) and Sustainable Energy for All, (SE4ALL) initiatives.
They stated that the goals for forum is to support the efforts of federal government to boost mass production of clean cooking solutions as well as contribute to meeting country’s obligation of Paris Agreement on climate change.
They also estimated that adding that adopting clean cooking has been on a very low scale in the country.The one-day Nigeria Clean Cooking Forum would bring together key policymakers, private sector leaders, researcher institutions, women groups as well as international partners.
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Saraki and Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril will deliver address, while Deputy Secretary General, United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, Senator Buka Ibrahim, Osita Chidoka of House of Representatives are expecting.
Those who would give goodwill messages include Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Mr. Samuel Onuigbo, Radha Muthaih of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Comfort Lamptey, Country Director, UN Women, among others.
