Promasidor recalls laid off staffs after being laid off for a year


The manufacturer of food and beverages company (Promasidor), has recalled all her laid off workers on 1st of December 2007.


You will recall that Promisador company had fired about 60 of her workers few hours after some of her staffs were inaugurated as Union officers since 2nd of November 2006.

According to the Chairman of the Union, Comrade George Olukayode, who is also one of the recalled union officers, he said they were fired because they joined the Union. He further stated that being a member of a Union is never a bad idea, he said they started the Union in other to drive home their demand for better pay, and a good work condition for her members.


According to him, Promisador had no legal justification whatsoever for initially laying them off the way she did. He stated that they had planned to approach the court to reinstate all the aggrieved fired workers should the Minister of Labour and Productivity failed to wage into their unlawful dismissal from work by their Employer (Promisador).

The comrade further stated that after several meetings, consultations and pressure from her members and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), he said the Minister of Labour and Productivity (Barr. Adetokunbo Olukayode), decided to wage in, thereby forcing Promisador company to shield her sword and recalled the fired workers.

Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the NLC, Comrade IG YUSUF, in defining the sacked union workers, called them dodged fighters. He commended their dodgedness and stated that he has known
them over a decade. He said they have remained vocal, resilient, and irrepressible for Nigeria workers and the entire masses. In saluting their dodgedness, he said the union workers have led many protest side by side with the NLC President Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his humble self, protesting against bad Governmental policies which tends to favor the rich and impoverish the poor.


Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Union (Comrade George Olukayode), stated that among the sixty workers recalled was his humble self (Comrade George Olukayode), Comrade Olumide Bakare (Secretary), Comrade Fortune Olorunfemi (Vice Chairman), Comrade Abiodun Olawuwo (Treasurer), Comrade Albert Ehigaleh (PRO), and others.

The Chairman Comrade George Olukayode, took out time to observe a minute silent for some of their colleagues whom he said died owing to high blood pressure emanating from the sack. According to him, amongst the five persons that died are, Comrade Gbenga Fasanya, Comrade Babatunde Adegbite, Comrade Joshua Sanni, Comrade Bukola Majekodunmi, and Comrade Waliu Fatade. He however prayed their souls find rest in the Lord.

In his final submission, he thanked the Hon. Minister of Labour and Productivity (Barr.Adetokunbo Olukayode), and other well meaning Nigerians who stood and fought tiredlessly for them to be reinstated. He also thanked President Olusegun Obasanjo (GCFR) for his fatherly support, he prayed that God will continue to bless our country Nigeria Amen.
