Wada announces N5 million reward for information on kidnappers

TO curtail activities of kidnappers in his domain, Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has announced a reward of N5 million for credible information that could lead to the apprehension of kidnappers, their associates and financiers in the state.

TO curtail activities of kidnappers in his domain, Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has announced a reward of N5 million for credible information that could lead to the apprehension of kidnappers, their associates and financiers in the state.

The Governor, who spoke at the police headquarters in Lokoja during his familiarization visit to the State Police Command said for the security agencies to succeed, members of the public must co-operate by volunteering such critical information that could assist the police to succeed.

“Whether you are a Nigerian or a foreigner, once you live in Kogi State, volunteer information that can assist the police in carrying out their work to make the state a safe place for all of us.

“Information is critical and very important, you can even write an anonymous note or anonymous phone call, which can give useful information.”

Wada said Kogi State Government will not pay any ransom for any kidnapping but will reward those who volunteer information. “So please spread this information across the state and mobilise our citizens to come with credible information that will help the police stamp out this ugly crime of kidnapping going on in our state.”

The governor said his visit was a major step among the things we his government was doing to combat the ugly incidence of kidnapping that has taken over the state recently. The Governor commended the police commissioner and his rank and file for being ever prepared for action saying that even though he came on a surprise visit the police was prepared.

“It shows the level of professionalism and preparedness of the police.” He expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of police for the renewed effort towards stamping out crime in the State.

He said his government appreciated the deployment of 350 police by the IG, adding that since the deployment many of the criminals have taken to their heels.

He also commended the IG for the procurement of 31 patrol Toyota Hilux vans to facilitate police surveillance work in the state.

Governor Wada commended the commissioner for the massive renovation work despite meagre resources and for changing the face of the Nigerian Police in Kogi, adding that the renovation of the police headquarters is something that has not been done for over three decades. “You came with global experience and your approach has endeared my Government to your command.

I will do everything possible to support you and your officers. Your officers have been doing a great job. Your work will not go unrecognised, Wada said his visit was to motivate officers for the sacrifices, which they have been making by laying down their lives for others.

The governor promised immediate release of N2.4 million as benefits for 12 officers of the command that paid the ultimate price on duty.

State Commissioner of Police Samuel Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi replied that for the three months he has worked with the Governor he has no regrets as “The governor has shown personal interest in the police and security. No State has enjoyed Government logistics support like Kogi.”

He said his ambition is to make Kogi the safest state in Nigeria. According to him, “The deployment of 350 police officers including specialists with logistics from the IG has been the high point adding that there is no State that has enjoyed such attention.

“The IG has graciously donated 31 patrol vehicles” Ogunjemilusi indicated that Governor Wada has been supporting his command financially, morally and physically.
