A statement by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, supporting the second term bid of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, has revived the power tussle in the state.

Tinubu, at the weekend in Kano, said Ganduje remains a dependable candidate who should be supported for a re-election in 2019.

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made the statement when he commiserated with Ganduje on the death of Maitama Sule.

Tinubu said: “Your Excellency, you are staying for eight years, even as some people are advocating 12 years. But, if you put a comma in any line of the constitution, it becomes an amendment. So, I endorse eight years.

“We are for it with all our body and soul, because you are a great man and a very loyal party man. One thing that we must note in Ganduje is that he is one of the most straightforward and dependable individuals.

“When you agree on something, or in the words of Donald Trump, “do a deal with him,” you can go to sleep because you would be the one to break that accord, not him. You have an understanding of family and friendship.”

But, the leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement, Abdulsalam Aminu, told The Guardian on phone that Rabiu Kwankwaso was not surprised about the statement.

Aminu, a former Commissioner for Home Affairs in Kwankwaso’s government, said the movement would respond formally to Tinubu’s comments.

He said: “We heard about Tinubu’s comment from the media, but we were not surprised, neither are we disturbed. But I can assure you that we would respond to the statement in due course.”
